In this article, we will show you ways to generate amazing names for your workshop.
Here’s what to expect in this article:
#1 Why is a Name So Important for My Workshop?
Apart from the benefits we have already mentioned above, your workshop name is instrumental in creating your event’s first impression.
A name gives your would-be attendees something to expect and it better be something wow.
Also, you don’t want to get lost in the crowd of so many other workshops happening around you, right in the face of your prospective attendees.
Talk about competition.
A great name helps your workshop stand out from all the others.
Keep in mind that “sticky does it.’
You don’t want a name that is hard to remember.
You want something that can come easily to mind and at the same time, sound more appealing than the names of your competitors.
#2 What Makes a Workshop Name “Good Enough?’
Here are three guidelines for picking a great workshop name:
- It explains what your workshop is about
When you get invited to a cocktail party, you know you’ll be dealing with a lot of glasses and appetizers.
You know what to expect.
The same thing goes for your workshop name.
Potential attendees should hear your workshop name and have an idea of what to expect.
Focus on the focus.
Nobody wants to dress up and leave their homes to play Murder Mystery or Puzzles.
If people are going to turn up for your event, they should know what they will be giving their time to for as long as it goes. They deserve to know.
- It excites your audience
Simple names are great.
But you want to make it exciting.
This doesn’t mean that you should go name your workshop “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”
Keep it simple, yes, but make it exciting.
Provoke emotions in your prospective attendees that make them think “ooohhh. I can’t wait to go!”
- It is memorable
In 24 hours, we have so much to do that some of us barely remember to eat!
What makes your workshop so important that a busy person can remember and decide not to miss it despite so much else to remember?
A memorable name.
You can try to rhyme your workshop name.
It makes it stick.
Now that we’ve considered the “Whys” and the “Whats,” of a great workshop name, let’s consider the Hows.
How to Come Up With a Workshop Name
Brainstorming for a great workshop name is a great way to go about naming your workshop, but sometimes, even brainstorming doesn’t work.
So what do you do?
You’ll find a couple of exercises here and event name ideas that will help you come up with a suitable name for your workshop; one your audience will love.
Remember, getting a great name begins with understanding what your workshop is about, what you want to accomplish by hosting it, and what makes your workshop better than the others all around.
If you keep all these in mind, it should not be hard to come up with a name that is truly unique to your workshop.
Ready?
- Research. What’s Already Out There?
Okay. So a safe place to start from is researching.
What are other popular workshop types in your niche calling themselves?
Yes, you want to stand out, but you also want to have a reference point.
So you don’t become “weird” instead of “outstanding.”
For SEO purposes, choose a name that has a URL available.
You can also check for URL availability for free on Google Domains or Name.com.
If the URL is taken already, the search engine will probably suggest similar names to give you more ideas.
Also, you want to consider when you google your chosen name, are there other names ranking for the same keywords as yours?
If yes, return to your drawing board and sort that out.
The less SEO competition, the better for your workshop.
- Try the Cultural or Industry Vocabulary
A great way to catch their attention is to sound like “Hey, I know this.”
Speak the language of your industry.
When you use vocabulary that is unique to your audience and workshop, your prospective attendees will perceive you to be someone who knows what they’re doing, your experience in this niche, notwithstanding.
- Keep it Simple and Straight to The Point
When you hear “Forbes Women Summit,” you know exactly what the event is about, who the attendees will be, and what they will likely be discussing.
See? Cut to the chase.
Try to keep it simple and straightforward.
This clears any confusion on your audience’s end.
- Use Pop Culture to Your Advantage
If you’re certain that your audience loves something pop culture related, you can use that to your advantage.
This is a great strategy for workshop name generation when you’re trying to appeal to audiences who are loyal fans to certain names or if you’re trying to increase your audience reach than before.
When it comes to generating a great name for your workshop, there is no lid on the creativity you can explore.
There is no one best method.
You just need to choose what works for you.
At the end of the day, you want it to make sense to you and to the people you are targeting.
As a bonus, to create your unique workshop name, you can also:
- Use puns to make your workshop name stick.
- Join two words together to form a completely new one like TechCon, for Technology Conference.
- Try working with a thesaurus or dictionary if the name you want is already taken or maybe just needs a little polishing up. You can always find words with the same meaning that sound better and fit more.
Again, there is no one method that is best in generating a name for your workshop.
Feel free to explore and create what is best for you.
Tips For Crafting Your Workshop Name
Okay. Time to put out that workshop.
How do you choose the perfect name for your workshop?
Remember, it should be catchy, attractive, and sticky.
Think about this: you’re surfing through Google, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, or Instagram and you see an Ad.
You judge the title for a few seconds and if you decide it’s not worth your attention; you move on.
Let’s face this reality: there are tons of content online, and you can’t consume them all.
So, what makes your workshop name good enough to stop a person in their e-Tracks and get them reading or clicking?
How do you create a good first impression?
It all begins with your title – what will you call your workshop?
Quickly, we’ll walk you through simple steps you can take to create the perfect title for your workshop.
Ready?
Step #1 Identify Your Target Audience
Describe your Target Audience using Demographic Information
Who is your target audience?
The demographic profile of your target audience has a high impact on how you name your workshop.
Here are some questions you can answer to help you determine your target audience:
- Where do they live?
- What do they do?
- Are they mostly male or female?
- What’s their highest education level?
- How old are they? Are they clustered within a specific age range?
If you already have an online following, then you can ask your audience to answer an online survey to help you determine your target audience.
But it’s okay, even if you’re just starting.
Everyone has a basic idea of who their target audience is.
You just need to put this idea into words.
Pick a Subsegment
Now that you’ve determined your target audience, you have to identify the subsegments within your specified group.
Market segmentation is the process of dividing a broad consumer or business market into sub-groups of consumers based on some type of shared characteristics.
Let’s assume that your audience is Vloggers.
You can subsegment them into:
- Fresh Graduates who want to make money
- Young Professionals who want the flexibility to work in remote locations
- Young professionals who are willing to build an online following
These are just our examples.
You can brainstorm up more subsegments depending on the demographic profile of your audience.
Describe Your Audience Using Psychographic Information
This refers to their personality, values, attitudes, interests, and lifestyles.
Below are a few questions you can ask to determine the psychographic profile of your target market:
- What are they interested in?
- What do they want to learn more about?
- What activities do they participate in?
- How do they feel about your topic?
The major difference between demographic and psychographic data is that the former is limited.
It fails to convey the motivations, interests, opinions, or goals of the customer. In contrast, the latter identifies what influences customers, what they love, and what could influence them to buy.
You can identify your audience’s psychographic information based on a short survey or by putting a bit of yourself into the description.
Summarize Your Work
This is where you combine everything you’ve learned about your target audience so far.
Consider both the demographic and psychographic profile of your audience and summarize it in two to three sentences.
Here’s an example:
Millennials interested in vlogging and social media are willing to commit to building an online following and are excited to share their experiences with an online audience.
Step #2 List Target Keywords and Phrases
#1. Use keyword research tools
You can try different options.
Option 1: Ahrefs
You can conduct keyword research using Ahref’s Keyword Explorer.
To get started with Ahrefs, create a profile, and click “Keywords Explorer” at the top bar.
Next, type the keywords that you want to rank for.
Ahrefs’ keyword Explorer generates four types of keyword ideas:
- Phrase match
- Having the same terms
- Also, rank for
- Search suggestions
Here’s what these mean:
- Phrase Match
This refers to keywords that contain the exact seed phrase you indicated. To get the results for this, click the keyword “phrase match” under the words “keyword ideas.”
- Having the same Terms
This contains your seed keywords, but the words may be arranged in any order within the results.
- Also, Rank for
This finds the top 10 ranking pages for your seed keywords and identifies the other keywords that these pages target. You will get suggestions associated with your seed keyword or subject.
- Search Suggestions
Search suggestions generate a list of keyword ideas that Google suggests using their auto-suggest feature when you type in your keyword in the search query.
You might want to note this: two metrics are useful in conducting keyword research in Ahrefs; search volume and keyword difficulty.
Search Volume refers to how many times people search for a keyword per month.
Keyword Difficulty refers to how difficult it is to rank in the top 10 results for a keyword. Ahref’s keyword difficulty score ranges from 0 to 100. The higher the keyword difficulty, the harder it is to rank for the keyword.
Option 2: Google Trends
Google Trends is another tool you can use to find target keywords.
This tool can help you identify search volume patterns across regions, time frames, categories, and properties.
To get started, simply type the topic or niche for your workshop.
You can filter your search results based on location, time, category, and search type.
Step #3. Write a catchy, accurate and Benefit-driven Title
- What’s the big benefit?
Writing a benefit-driven title is the first step here. Highlight the transformation that the students can expect to get when they attend your workshop.
Pay less attention to the duration of the workshop and more emphasis on the outcome of attending the workshop. How will your workshop make your students’ lives better?
- Accurate Information
The next thing to do is to add a sizable benefit to your workshop. Here are some questions to guide you:
– How long will it take your student to achieve the promise in your workshop?
– Can the outcome of the workshop be quantified? You can see an example of title-specificity here.
- Ask a Compelling How-to Question
People are benefit-driven.
This is why you subscribe to emails online.
Users have desires they want to fulfill and improve their lives.
Clearly state how your workshop will do that.
This will help your potential attendees understand why they need to attend your workshop.
- Evoke an Emotional Response
The key here is to use power words.
Talk of copywriting.
For those who are just coming aboard, power words are used to trigger emotional responses from customers to read, click, and buy.
Check out some power words you can use to trigger:
- Excitement: bold, exciting, fascinating, transform.
- Authority: Masterclass, Complete, Comprehensive, Powerful, Surefire, Proven.
- Exclusivity: Priceless, Little-known, Secret, Unique, Hidden.
The list is endless.
- Limit your title to 65 characters
If you want to create a title for your workshop that will make it to the first page of Google, you need to learn this simple trick: Limit your title to not more than 65 characters.
Choose your words wisely.
This ensures your title is not cut short on Google’s results pages.
Conclusion
With the right title, your workshop will stand out like a peacock among crows.
While it takes some effort, the result is worth it.
If you take the time and do what it takes as this article has shown you, you’re bound for a head-turning title for your workshop.
